Who We Are
About Us
We are dedicated to providing the best person-centered non-emergency medical transportation in Virginia, helping people access healthcare, community resources, and everyday activities that support independence and well-being.
Mission & Purpose
The mission and purpose of Wall Connections is to provide safe, dependable non-emergency medical transportation, with a particular focus on serving the developmental disability community.
Employee Ownership & Company Culture
The Wall difference is our people.
Wall staff are employee-owners who are deeply committed to supporting those we serve. Our leadership team, headed by CEO John Weatherspoon and Founder/Board Chair Jack Wall, brings extensive experience providing high-quality support for people with disabilities.
History
Wall Residences was founded in December 1995 with a mission to provide the highest quality, person-centered disability support possible. In the three decades since, we have continually innovated and grown while keeping our founding values at the forefront of all we do.
Our Roots: Sponsored Residential
Jack Wall and Kamala Bauers operated the very first Wall Residences Sponsored Residential service from their home. They hired a Program Manager to oversee the service and ensure everything was done ethically. The company quickly grew in response to significant need across the state. Our founders sought families with the right skills, attitude, and home environment to provide the highest standard of support.
Growth of Services
As Sponsored Residential homes expanded, families we supported and state officials requested that Wall broaden our services to include additional models of support including Community Engagement, Community Coaching, and small 4-5 bed Group Homes. In 2023, we launched Wall Connections to provide much-needed non-emergency medical transportation.
Becoming Employee Owned
In 2009, Jack and Kamala began formally planning for the future of the company beyond their retirement. While offers from other companies were plentiful and generous, they determined that the best way to preserve the quality and culture they had established was to transition to employee ownership. The ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) was established with the first transaction in 2012, and the company became 100% employee-owned in October 2020.
New Services and Sister Companies
“All are leaders” has been deeply embedded in our company culture from the earliest days. As employee-owners identified unmet needs, Wall continued to diversify its services to better serve our communities. Today, we are three sister companies offering non-emergency medical transportation, residential, community-based, and clinical services.
Our Founders
Jack Wall, M.Ed. and
Kamala Bauers, LCSW
Jack worked as the Director of Mental Retardation Services for two Virginia Community Services Boards and had over 25 years of experience in the field before founding this agency. Kamala Bauers came to this work primarily as a sister of an individual with significant support needs.
